Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis
Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) is a non-invasive pathology test that examines the mineral composition of hair. It provides insights into the levels and ratios of various nutrients and toxic minerals present in the body.

This is a non-diagnostic test that will tell you your current metabolic type, a view into your mineral levels and important nutrient mineral ratios, as well as heavy metal toxicity. Analyzing the most most recent 1.5-2 inches of hair growth (closest to the scalp) gives insight into an average of the last 3-4 months (depending on how fast your hair grows) rather than a snapshot of time.
Note on metal testing of hair: Hair is used as one of the tissue's of choice by the Environmental Protection Agency in determining toxic metal exposure. A 1980 report from the E.P.A. stated that human hair can be effectively used for biological monitoring of the highest priority toxic metals. This report confirmed the findings of other studies which concluded that human hair may be a more appropriate tissue than blood or urine for studying community exposure to some trace metals.
The full report and analysis will give great guidance for dietary changes and nutrient recommendations.
A HTMA report could benefit you if:
You are struggling with weight, headaches, blood sugar issues, thyroid problems, sleep, energy or mood management
Have a limited diet and want to make sure you’re getting the proper micronutrients
Have recently had a stressful event or illness, or been pregnant (all depleting on the body)
You have unexplained health issues and don’t know where to start
You are curious about toxic metals in your body
You are willing to correct mineral imbalances with supplements or diet and want to know exactly what to include to help balance your body
A HTMA report is not recommend if you:
Are not in a position to make any diet or supplement changes right now
Have concerns about excessive hair loss and don’t want to remove more hair for a sample
Conditions which may result or be aggravated by a mineral imbalance are:
Depression
Headaches
Hair Loss
Hypoglycemia
Hypertension
Anemia
Musculo-skeletal Disorders
Arthritis
Hyperactivity
Skin Rashes
Allergies
Emotional Problems
Thyroid Disturbances
Cardiovascular Disease
Arteriosclerosis
Diabetes
Osteoporosis
Digestive Disturbances
Common Causes of a Mineral Imbalance:
Diet - Too much or too little of carbohydrates, protein, or fat for your metabolic type
Taking vitamins or minerals which are not compatible with your current body chemistry
Medications
Birth control pills
Stress
Accumulation of toxic metals
Inheritance of mineral patterns from parents
Did you know?
Woman’s PMS headaches can be influenced by too much copper in their system
Arthritis pain can be associated with lead, cadmium or mercury poisoning
Hyperactive children often have too much lead in their system
Male potency is greatly affected by their zinc levels
Too much vitamin C can potentially make an infection worse in some metabolic types
Approximately 80% of our population lacks necessary enzymes and natural stomach acids to digest their food
Magnesium deficiency is very common due to our soil being depleted
